This is @McAffee, a newsletter and content hub by me, Justin McAffee. I’m an award-winning filmmaker of a series called Desert Apocalypse, and a writer using my creative work to connect people to the wonders of nature, what’s happening to it today, and what we can do about it.
Across my channels I have a variety of themed content, everything from journeys in the outdoors, skills for a more resilient society, discussions about threats to the environment, people working to save it and the tactics that work. In the past, I’ve had this content spread across different channels. I decided this will be a good place to have it all merge into one.
We Are At A Crucial Moment

We live in a society preoccupied with the ideology of consumption, growth and technology. We’ve never seen a more destructive century for the natural world. Our political and thought leaders are essentially controlled by money, and the people who have it, leaving most of us with a sense of powerlessness to do anything about it.
Our society is starved for counter narratives, information about the grim realities we face, and what we can do about it.
There are stories that need telling. I started this space to better connect with audiences both off and on social media, to make space for long form content and an archive of my work.
Welcome All Who Love The Natural World
This is a place for sharing and learning. There are so many stories the corporate sponsored media just doesn’t cover. They have a narrative and agenda dictated by profit margins.
This is also very often true of political and activist groups. Large donors want topics off the agenda entirely. They mostly focus on solutions that just aren’t solutions, nor just. That leaves it up to us to make and engage in the spaces that talk about reality and tell the truth.
The reality for our planet is grim. That won’t ever change if we live under the delusions set by well-funded narratives. My vision is to make this a space to counter that. I hope you’ll join if this appeals to you.
Subscriptions and Schedule
Right now I’m starting off with a free subscription that gives you access to public content.
I do need support to do this, and so I am making subscription options available to anyone who would like to contribute to this work either with a monthly, annual or founding member contribution. I will be able to provide more and consistent content with financial support.
Right now the goal is to post here at least once a week. I hope to do more if time permits. I also run a small creative agency (Most Media) to pay the bills.
Exclusive content will be available for paid subscribers. I’d love to provide special posts, chats, and behind-the-scenes access. For founding members, special recognition on a page on this site.
